Eric Litwin's book "Sing and Dance in Your Polka Dot Pants" is truly a family favorite here in Miss Jody's house! Such a fun story and brings together opportunities for your child to have new experiences in literacy, music, dance and art!!
In this adorable book Hazel Nut is looking for someone to dance with - but her family is all too busy! A quick call to Grandma Nut and she finally finds her dance partner. Will the rest of the family join in when they see how much fun Hazel and Grandma are having? You'll have to read the book to find out!
As Eric Litwin does in his other books starring Pete the Cat there is a song that repeats throughout the book. This repetition builds your child's language skills AND cognitive skills like predicting what comes next and memorization. The official Polka Dot Pants Music Video is available on YouTube. Put on your silliest pants and have a dance party!
When you're all danced out sit down and create your very own Polka Dot Pants. Grownups grab a sheet of paper and some dot markers (or bingo dabbers). If you don't have dot markers you can have them draw their own dots with crayons OR use some Q-Tips dipped in paint. Draw a quick pair of pants and have your child stamp the dots all over. There is no right or wrong here just let them get as creative as they want! Here is what my 3 year old created:
Have fun together building your child's brain by reading the book and listening to music, boosting their gross motor skills with a dance party and their fine motor skills with art!
And when you're ready to continue the dance party join Miss Jody for Zumbini on Mondays 6:30 pm or Saturdays 10:00 am. Book here: www.Moxie.xyz/MissJody
