Repeat after me!

Updated: Aug 3, 2020

Ever wonder why your preschooler wants to watch the same movie over and over again? Why your baby thinks it's hilarious to throw the same toy off their high chair to the floor over and over again?

Why your toddler wants to hear the same book every night?

Because children CRAVE repetition. It brings the comfort of something familiar in a world that is constantly changing around them.

Think about it - imagine you're a child just learning how to talk. New words are introduced to you every day, you have to learn every word for every THING in your world. It's hard work! By repeating words and familiar experiences it reinforces those new neural pathways being built in your child's brain. It gives them a chance to not just experience something for the first time but the the ability to COMPREHEND the experience by trying it again and again. In other words - repetition is how young children LEARN!!!

This concept of repetition is particularly important when it comes to new experiences like Virtual Classes. Even if your child has taken an in-person music or dance class the experience of now taking class online in the home environment is new for them. Repetition is key to moving from understanding just the basic concepts of the class to exploring the activity to its fullest extent.

I encourage all of you to look at the world through the eyes of your young child. Give them time to adjust to this new experience by committing to several weeks of classes. Give them time to reinforce their language skills, cognitive skills, motor skills, listening skills, and behavioral skills. Keep returning to classes week after week and watch the magic of repetition give your child self-confidence, I look forward to experiencing it right along side you.

See you in class soon,

Miss Jody
