7 Must Have Musical Toys for Babies and Toddlers

Updated: Aug 3, 2020

Whether you're looking for something new for your own little one or shopping for someone else, music toys are always a hit! Here are 7 must have toys that develop fine motor skills, cognitive skills and language skills - and are a whole lot of fun too!

*Disclaimer - young children should always be supervised when using these or any other music toys*

#1 Castanets

Kids love figuring out how these work, they love to "chomp" them together, they love to open them up and pretend they are binoculars. Amazing fine motor skill builders, these castanets are going to be well loved in your home!

#2 Egg Shakers

Not just fun to play music with, a set of 12 colorful egg shakers can help teach things like sorting, counting, and color recognition! Plus babies LOVE to put them into a container and take them back out over and over again!

#3 Rain Sticks

What baby can resist watching these beads drip down over and over again!? Shake it, roll it, crawl after it and repeat!

#4 Wrist Bells

Strap these on to your child's wrists or ankles and watch them smile and giggle as they crawl, walk or dance around! Put on your favorite tunes and let them jingle away!

#5 Bongo Drums

These are the perfect size for little hands. Drums are fantastic for learning language skills and working with OPPOSITES - loud and soft, fast and slow, reaching hands up and drumming down. So versatile and easy for little ones to play!

#6 Ribbon Rings

Teething babies love the wooden rings, toddlers love to watch the ribbons swirl around as they dance. Grasping onto the ring helps develop fine motor skills and when they're ready to dance with the ring they're boosting their large motor skills! Ribbon rings are a great toy that grows WITH your child. Even my own 8 year old can't resist picking them up and twirling around with them!

#7 Rhythm Sticks

Rhythm sticks are amazing at helping develop eye hand coordination. It takes a lot of skill and practice to coordinate clicking them together. Find a set that has one smooth and one with grooves in it if you can. When you rub them together they make a great sound plus teething babies love to chew on those grooves!!

Happy shopping! - Miss Jody
